Hi......My laptop (notebook) had a couple screws come loose in the hinge area and were rattling around inside. I took it to a local Nerds (HP approved). They couldn't even get it apart, but said the were able to fix it and charged me $200. About a week later, one of the loose internal screws jammed in the cooling fan, and not I'm getting an overheat warning. I have no faith in these little repair shops. When I search the HP website for approved repair stations all that comes up is little independent repair places with no connection whatsoever to HP Staples....... Is there such a thing as a genuine factory HP repair service?

You have to vet these places pretty well. If you want to try to do it yourself I have done quite a few of these type repairs and am willing to help remotely of course. Most computer techs are not very good at actual mechanical repair work. Not too many people actually spend the money to properly fix a hinge problem: they just buy a new laptop.
