I do need you help. I downloaded the exe and ran it. Do I update the driver to what was extracted?

which .exe; the HP one or the AMD one? And you have to follow along and answer my questions. What does device manager show for display adapter?

what did you do to improve the resolution?

In the device manager, find the Display adapter section, open it and right click on the line for the ATI Radeon.  Uninstall the existing driver.  When the dialog pops up, tell it to delete the existing driver.  Reboot.

 

You will get back some of your resolution, but not all.

 

On my dv7 laptop monitor, with a physical resolution of 1920x1280, I was able to get back to 1600x900, substantially more than what I had a few hours ago.
