HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cd0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have problem with my laptop HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cd0xx.

On the product page it says that it has AMD Radeon 530™ with dedicated 4GB DDR3 graphics memory, but when i run AMD Radeon Settings its mapped as AMD Radeon (TM) 535DX. It look same to me as the other one, but when I run a game that needs atleast 2GB graphics memory I cant run it and game says that i have only 1024 graphics memory.

I have installed graphics drivers from: https://support.hp.com/cz-cs/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-15-cd000-laptop-pc/15551395/model/17033... on my version of system. Reinstalling system to factory settings did no difference. I settuped AMD Radeon Settings on that the game has to run on the dedicated graphics card, but it still says only 1024 GB of graphics memory.

Thanks for advice.

@Delmento,

Greetings and Welcome to HP Support Community!

AMD Radeon 530 is the name of the series and the AMD Radeon 535 is the model name of the graphics card.

As you mentioned you would like to know how to dedicate more video memory to your laptop.

Follow these steps to view video memory information:

  1. Right-click an open area of the desktop, then click Screen resolution.

    The Screen Resolution window opens.

  2. Click Advanced settings.

    Figure : Screen Resolution

Screen Resolution window, showing location of Advanced settings
  3. Click the Adapter tab.

The video memory information is displayed under Adapter Information:

    • Total Available Graphics Memory: A combination of all memory available for graphics. The system may not actually be using all of this memory, but it is available when requested.

    • Dedicated Video Memory: Memory set aside for the exclusive use of the graphics adapter.

For Integrated Graphics Cards, this memory is set aside by the BIOS and is subtracted from system memory before Windows 7 is loaded. Windows 7 does not report this as part of total system memory.

For Discrete Graphics Cards, this is the memory that is on the graphics card. It is not subtracted from system memory.

    • System Video Memory: A fixed memory allocation that is subtracted from system memory after Windows 7 loads. Windows 7 reports this as part of total system memory. It is available to software programs.

    • Shared System Memory: An additional pool of memory that may be dynamically allocated and released as needed. This memory is available to programs and may be used for graphics if required.

You can't increase the video memory per-se, but you can allocate more virtual memory for your computer to use.

To do this, click start, right click computer>Properties>advanced system settings>advanced>performance>advanced>(virtual memory)>change>

click custom size and enter the size of hard drive space you would like to allocate to virtual memory. I would recommend and initial size of 10000mb and a maximum size of 20000mb. Click apply and reboot your system.

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Thanks for reply,

But the problem remains,

My Laptop still cant use more than 1GB of video memory, when I followed your steps to get information about my graphics card it still shows that:

Odeslaný screenshot obrázek (Sorry I cant find the language setting to change it)

But when I run game that needs that video memory that this screen shows that I have it, game shows this:Odeslaný screenshot obrázek

I tried to update graphics driver and when I did it changed name of graphics card into AMD Radeon (TM) R7 M340 instead of AMD Radeon (TM) 535DX.

I want to know why my laptop just cant use graphics memory that it got inside...

And I tried to go into BIOS and there is no option to give it more...

Im sorry that I didnt give my question right before.

Thanks for new advice.

@Delmento,

you need information and assistance related to Reserve Memory on your HP Desktop PC. No worries, I'll be glad to assist you.

I would personally suggest you go through this support document for - Understanding how Video Memory is used

In this scenario, You can't increase the video memory per-se, but you can allocate more virtual memory for your computer to use.

I hope this information answers your question.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂

@Jeet_singh,

Your solution did no diference and doesnt solve my problem, Ill give som screens to show you better my problem.

I understand how works graphics memory, but there are some problems:

1. In the document about it was:

    • Shared System Memory: An additional pool of memory that may be dynamically allocated and released as needed. This memory is available to programs and may be used for graphics if required.

If it does in my system there will be no problem with VRAM becaouse of my discrete graphics card:

    Odeslaný screenshot obrázek

But it doesnt, applications can use only 1GB of it. And if it will be dynamically allocated and released, there will be no problem.

2. The thing that this laptop have discrete graphics card:
  • Dedicated Video Memory: Memory set aside for the exclusive use of the graphics adapter.
For Integrated Graphics Cards, this memory is set aside by the BIOS and is subtracted from system memory before Windows 7 is loaded. Windows 7 does not report this as part of total system memory.
For Discrete Graphics Cards, this is the memory that is on the graphics card. It is not subtracted from system memory.

            This is my laptop specifications:

      Bez názvu.png

As its said in the document the discrete graphics card will have all its VRAM in dedicated video memory.

But the task manager shows this:

Odeslaný screenshot obrázek

[For information, after update of graphics drivers the AMD Radeon 530 renamed itself into AMD Radeon R7 M340]

As you can see there is that somewhere is problem...

As its said in the document that you gave me to read, I will have all of my discrete graphics card memory in the dedicated  pool.

My question is, how I can get to work it how it may from the Specifications that it have...

Thanks atleast for reading...

PS. Please dont send me again in virtual memory, it did no doference and it helps only if I have problems with RAM...

Thanks for new advice.

@Delmento,

RAM allocation is being configured only via BIOS settings.

HP PC's uses a customized BIOS setting (Tattooed BIOS) of which some features including increasing the VRAM are locked.

This is done in the best interest of safeguarding the PC for the optimal performance and not to cause any extensive component failure.

To conclude, the VRAM on your PC is already shared with a specific value and its locked and cannot be changed.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂

My laptop have 2 graphics cards:

 1. integrated: Radeon R7 etc. Locked by itself on 512MB, thats understateable, because its getting VRAM from RAM.

 2. discrete: AMD Radeon™ 530 Graphics (4 GB DDR3 dedicated). Again locked at 512MB, where is logic in that? Locking it on          0,5 from 4GB...

(In that cause that laptop can use only 1GB of video memory...)

Youre telling about "safeguarding the PC", if its only a safeguarding, then why is HP desingners more powerfull graphics cards than it can run without issues?

Im really disapointed about that and furious.

I hope that this is only a joke, because if it isnt its just unfair to customers that want to buy the laptop when it have discrete 4GB graphics card and HP just lock it on 512MB...

I just want to use that I bought...

Thanks for reply...
