Hi

I have run the HDD diagnostic which said the test failed with code QFKT99-86LBOE-MFPX6J-6OR8O3.

Can someone here enlighten me what this code specifically means?

Thank you.

Hi:

The failure code provides very little useful information and devotes most of its energy providing your PC's serial number.

Below is the failure report generated by the code you posted, minus your PC's serial number.

Failure Information
Failure ID Tag Checksum HP Serial Number Test Date Failure Code Device Includes Error Message
QFKT99-86LB0E-MFPX6J-60R803OK00000000001/14/22303StorageFloppy Drive, Hard Drive, Memory Drive, Optical Drive, SCSI, Tape DriveHard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure

You will need to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

I see your notebook came with a 2 TB hard drive, but if you don't need that much space you can get a 500 GB SSD for a reasonable price.

After you replace the drive, you can reinstall W10 for free by making a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.

You will not need the product key to reinstall W10, since the key is in your notebook's BIOS.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Thank you @Paul_Tikkanen

I do realise that I have to replace the HDD which in fact is 1TB with a new 1TB SSD as the HDD has 24 bad sectors. Thanks for your help.
