Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have verified the HDMI cord works fine with other devices.  However, anytime I connect the HDMI cord to my laptop and an external device (projector) I get the message "HDMI NO SIGNAL."  My laptop is not that old and I do all updates anytime they are available so I'm really struggling with why something that came with the laptop and was a main driver for the purchase is not working.
