Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

- I bought my laptop when it had Win 8.1.  When MS offered Win 10 I accepted that offer.  So, it now has Win 10 (64-bit).

- After many tries, I have never had success making my 1 authorized backup copy of the OS...either before or after the upgrade.  I would get to the part about putting in 6 DVDs or one external Flash memory.  I bought a new external hard drive, and have tried that.  It has plenty of room, but it was never recognized.

- I want to install a SSD, but am concerned about migration of the OS.

- I have instructions for replacing the hard drive, but I'd like step-by-step for migrating the drives.

- Can anyone help me with: 1) getting a good backup prior to beginning, and 2) a step-by-step guide?

Thank you.

The first thing that you need to do is to create  a usb recovery flashdrive. There are a number of flashdrives that will work. Sandisk is not one of them.

Start the HP Recovery media creator utility.  It will off the choice of DVD or usb. That is where you will find out the capacity required.  I Had no problem making a uSB  recovery flashdrive for my product loan Spectre 13 ultrabook. I used a 32 GB  PNY usb 3.0 flashdrive that I bought at at Seattle, Washington BestBuy last June.

I wrote a tutorial on how to clone from HDD to SSD at the top of the notebook Hardware section. I will provideo a link below.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.  Will my WD My Passport Ultra external drive not work for my Recovery backup?
