Out of my 10 HP Computers in my Office I have 5 HP Spectre x360 Laptops 2 of them are experiencing Battery Swelling running hot and one of the two has an issue of screen flashing assuming due to the expansion of the battery. The Case on these two x360's has recently bent so much that the laptop will not close and the touch pad is seperating from the case. Lap top will also not set flat on the desk.
HP Battery Program Validation Unitility shows that there are no Recalled Battery in each of these two models (13-4005dx). But obiously there is a problem with the safety of these batteries!
As hot as this one is running I am a little nervouse about continuing use.
Please help my resolve this issue.
Thank you
Darien

Obviously some failure happening. I wouldn't continue using until it is resolved. It isn't easy to get the Spectre apart but I would try to remove the battery and run only with power cord if you just have to use them. I believe it requires a Torx 3 screwdriver to remove back cover. @Photoray002 should know for sure which size.
I will ask a Moderator to escalate your post for HP to review it.

The bottom case screws on my 4100 series take a T4 Torx bit.
The battery screws will be phillips 000.
Its just as cheap to buy one of those tool kits that contain multi bits like on Amazon. They should contain the size you need for whatever laptop you are working on.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

This bulging started happening to my laptop about a month ago. Now it is thick enough that it is popping out the trackpad and the monitor will not close. Talked to HP support and the guy tould me I should have contacted HP when the laptop was still under warranty and they could have done something (which ended two months ago - before the issues started).
THIS IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURES DEFECT - I REALLY HOPE THAT HP IS GOING TO STAND BEHIND THIS NOT CHEAP LAPTOP!

I am having the same issue. There's a bulge under the keyboard to the right of center and my lid will not close all of the way. I'm not sure I feel confident about taking the back off to remove the battery, assuming that is the issue. Could you please report my case, too? Thank you.

I think I have the same problem. My trackpad stopped working months ago due to swelling, and my spacebar works intermittenly. I have been researching how to replace trackpad, but then I saw this post and realized it might be the battery. How to get this fixed? Spent a lot of money on the laptop. Model: hp spectre x360 15-bl012dx
UPDATE as of 12/11/18
Replaced the battery myself, thanks to several youtube videos on how to open the laptop, etc. Easy to do. But no thanks to HP or help from them. They don't even sell the replacement battery. Nor does it show up as recalled, as another person posted. It burns me to have to spend $100 more on an already expensive laptop.
Ended up purchasing a battery from this place: Impact computers: https://www.impactcomputers.com/902499-856.html.
Very quick turnaround and communication via email re: order processing and shipping. $107.44
Here's the spec for the HP Spectre 360 Battery CT#: 6FZER03TZ541A4
from user guide: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-spectre-15-bl000-x360-convertible-pc/13823372/model/15241989...
Battery, 6-cell, 79-WHr, 3.43-AHr, Li-ion 902499-856
The trackpad, space bar and mouse clicking now works. Was concerned there might be damage to it from the swelling but all fell back into place. Whew!
