I have this notebook since 2023, It is very slow, very hot. It is a pentium N6000, 8GB ram, 128GB SSD+64GB EMMC.

This time I want to upgrade wifi module because it  lags too much while watching youtube video.

I am going to get a Intel 8260AC module.

The Intel 8260AC Wi-Fi adapter does not have better specs than the Realtek 8822CE Wi-Fi adapter your notebook has now and is an old card.

If you want to upgrade the Wi-Fi card, I recommend this model:

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 802.11ax 2 × 2 + Bluetooth 5 (non-vPro)   HP part # L35282-005

Do you have the latest Realtek Wi-Fi driver installed for the RTL8822CE?

This is currently the latest driver:

 2024.10.229.1

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp155001-155500/sp155074.exe

The notebook runs hot because there is no fan for the models with the Pentium processors since they are low wattage.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your reply.

I am not requesting exceptional good wireless performance. This HP is sold to me as used, Probably it was a returned item. The seller sold it to me without fixing its overheating, slow, non-responsive and lagging issues. Its Realtek wireless module seems not working properly. Intel 8260AC is OK and easy to get at low cost. I don't want to spend too much on this laptop.

This laptop was very hot while I was doing passmark graphic test. It did not finish the test. I remember I had a Toshiba T135D notebook which was very hot. I used a USB wireless adapter instead and it was much cooler then.

You're very welcome.

This morning  I replaced its wireless module with a Intel 8260AC. The antenna socket 2  ddidn't  plug in place on the Intel card, I checked the antenna socket 2 of the original HP wireless card and found some glue (looks like those used on heatsink). I tried many times and caused some damages on the socket of the Inter card.  Finally I used a bracket to fix this issue.

The Intel module works properly at once. No need to update driver. The temperature of the laptop bottom seems not as hot as before.

Hi:

Glad that the Intel 8260AC works in your notebook and that it reduced the temperature on the bottom of the laptop.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your attention.

This laptop is sold to me via Amazon as used-good condition at USD129 one year and 4 months ago. Even now it still looks like new. The original wireless card is  Realtek Model RTL8822CE. This card looks like new except the round edge of its  antenna socket 2 is no longer exist. This issue can only be seen after the antenna cable 2 being detached, and the antenna cable cannot plug into the Intel card. I tried several times and cause some damages to the Intel card's socket.

I tested the wireless transfer speed before and after the change. The downloading speed of the Realtek  and Intel cards are on the same range around 330 MB per second. The uploading speed of Intel is around 400 MB, and Realtek is around 300MB.

Its pentium N6000 cpu can offers double channel graphic mode, but the laptop can only work in single channel mode because it has only one ram socket. It lead to a hot temperature while watching youtube video. When the temperature reaches its limit, the youtube video becomes lagging.

You're very welcome.

Probably the broken connector to the Wi-Fi card is lodged inside the antenna wire connector.

It is very hard to remove.  You have to have a magnifying glass, jeweler's loupe and small probes to dig it out of the antenna wire.

If you are asking for my help to fix the problems with the Wi-Fi, or the heat, unfortunately I wouldn't be able to help you with that.

As the notebook gets hot, thermal throttling kicks in and slows things down to prevent a thermal shutdown.
