HP Laptop - 14s-fq0011au
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi..
I am using HP 14S-FQ0011AU, with Ryzen 5 4500U and 8GB DDR4 RAM

Recently I just upgraded my RAM into 2x8GB dual channel Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 2666.
But after that, my notebook started crash randomly, but mostly when I play games on android emulator (Bluestacks 5 or LDPlayer).
I checked the event viewer, it's written that "display driver amdwddmg stopped responding and has successfully recovered". So it seems, the AMD Graphic driver started crash randomly. I tried updating the driver from HP website, but the result still the same. I even upgraded into windows 11 (before was wndows 10 Home), upgraded driver too, but the problem still persist. And sometimes green screen of death appears, showing error message "PPN-LIST_CORRUPT"  or "IRQL Not Less or Equal". I checked on google, those error messages almost specifically refer to faulty RAM or corrupt drivers.
I tested my RAM using Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool and Memtest86, and showing no error occured.

I found some forums, there are people that have same experiences as mine, their PC start crashing AFTER they use dual channel RAM, and the VGA they are using are AMD Radeons.
Is it really caused by faulty drivers, or maybe just bad luck I have faulty RAM? Or maybe the AMD drivers just won't work correctly on Patriot dual channel RAM?

Its not faulty RAM its just incompatible. You do not want to try to use gaming or performance memory. The "Viper Steel" memory you added has more aggressive timings than the stock memory HP provides and which you have to use even for upgrade. HP notebooks, even gaming models are designed to run on stock OEM RAM with standard latency, etc. for the speed.

okay, so it's just compatibility issue right? Viper Elite timing just a little bit higher indeed...18-18-18-43, whilst kingston is  19-19-19 if I'm not mistaken..
it's safe to assume if I just buy standard RAM such as kingston, vgen, or teamelite perhaps..?
any suggestion which brand? I personally prefer kingston, because it uses samsung chips, just like the stock RAM that pre-installed in my notebook.

Kingston is OK just not Kingston Value RAM. Hynix or Samsung is better. I think almost all memory uses Samsung chips. Can't guarantee stock memory will work better but a very very high chance.

well, if kingston value ram is not okay, then which type then?
I searched on kingston's website, there are few types, value ram, server premier, fury..
and in Indonesia's marketplace, I believe mostly are selling value ram, and fury..but fury is gaming/performance ram right..
server premier using hynix or micron chips...
or any other brands?vgen, teamelite, crucial?

Not sure what you can buy in Indonesia I just know Kingston Value RAM is designed to work in many many different computers so it can be sold at retail in stores that also sell computers. It has a very bad history with HP laptops. Crucial standard memory is great. That is the trademark of Micron or you can buy Micron branded. Transcend, Timetec (amazon house brand made by Hynix) Adata is OK.

Ah I see..so many HP laptops got bad history with Kingston value RAM..unfortunately, only value ram and fury types are available here.
So standard RAM as long as using Samsung or Hynix chip with standard latency are OK right? I'm planning to buy Hynix or Samsung brand here..
Just to make sure, what is the value of standard latency? is it CL19 (19-19-19-43)?
Micron chip is OK I assume? My patriot viper steel also use Micron, but I am testing it using only single module, my laptop run just well since 2 days ago..and now I'm testing the 2nd module on single channel also..

CL=19 is stock latency for DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM

I managed to get Samsung sodimm 8GB and paired it with my stock RAM and never got the BSOD anymore, never crashed when using emulator..thanks for the advice, really helpful
