I'm trying to determine two things about the HP 15-ac132ds laptop.
1. The maximum amount of RAM that can be installed
2. The configuration required i.e. 2x4gb or 1x8gb
Currently, it has the 4gb of RAM it came with. I cannot find accurate information for this model regarding max amount of RAM or slot configuration. When I go into task manager - performance - memory, it says 1 of 2 slots used. But when I search online, it says there's one slot and it can hold 8gb. The HP Support website does not recognize the laptop's serial or product numbers so it's no help. I've already chatted with someone from support and they told me what I already knew about the RAM so I still need these questions answered. Thank you.

Notebooks with the Intel Pentium N3700 processors have one memory slot.
Your notebook can support a maximum of 1 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory.
You will have to remove the 4 GB memory chip and replace it with an 8 GB memory chip.
Here's a picture of an eBay listing of your notebook's motherboard:

You can see the single memory slot in the lower left corner of the picture and the circuitry present for the non-existent second slot, which is why software erroneously reports there are two memory slots.
Below is the link to the service manual:
HP Notebook PC (Intel)HP 250 G4 Notebook PCHP 256 G4 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide
This should be a compatible 8 GB memory chip for your notebook:
Since you are taking the notebook apart, you may want to take the opportunity to replace the slow-poke 1 TB mechanical hard drive with a much better performing 2.5" SATA solid state drive (SSD) such as the Western Digital Blue SA510 1 TB:
