Hello, I have bought a new laptop: HP 15-bc410nq. I want to install an SSD.
Would this be compatible:
Samsung 860 EVO, 500GB, SATA III, M.2
or do I have to go for the Samsung 970 EVO, 250GB, PCI Express, M.2 ?
since they have different connectors

Your notebook is compatible with NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD products.
The Samsung 860 EVO, 500GB, SATA III, M.2 is not compatible with your notebook.
The Samsung 970 EVO is compatible. It does have an M key, but the slot on your notebook is a B + M type, so either key type fits.
