I bought this bad boy a year ago and it had obviously been sitting in their backroom since being shipped when it was released. The laptop has performed rather beautifully for what it is but within a month of purchase the left hinge was showing signs of wear and made opening and closing the lid rather stressful.
As i don't really take my laptop anywhere I essentially turned the laptop into a desktop and set everything up so the hinge never needed to be used. Despite making use of the lid closed feature laptops are known less than 20 or so times, the hinge completely failed this past weekend and I appear to have lost signal to the monitor.
I am not in any position to buy a new system, and am not trying to waste my time getting HP to cover it or acknowledge the obviously lack of effort put into designing and manufacturing a hinge that works even close to an acceptable level. What I am trying to find is the product repair/disassembly guide and maybe a point in the direction of the parts list so I can see about fixing it myself.
Until then I should be able to just keep it hooked up to an external and it will at least allow me to use the rest of the computer, correct? Does anyone know if it's possible to get the OS to stop recognizing the built in display so the broken monitor doesn't count against the 3 displays the processor can handle?
I really appreciate any and all help - i'm not expecting the world I just want to be able to use the rest of the computer until I am able to actually replace it, which may not be for a few months.
