HP 250 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 250 G6 3168NGW and would like to upgrade the RAM. It currently has 4 GB and according to the documentation it can be upgraded. Task manager shows me that it is currently using 1 slot out of 2, however, I can't find the other slot. When I opened it up to install the RAM, I only found one slot. Is the other not user accessible or is task manager mistaken somehow?

Yes @marybary. Quite misleading. I guess it could be that the motherboard is designed with two slots, but the actul physical slot is not soldered to motherboard.

All the best,

David

Hi,

If you look on pages 1 and 2 of service manual you can see

if you have a Pentium or Celeron Processor it only has one slot and supports max 8GB of DDR3L 1600Mhz RAM.

if you have an Intel Core Processor it has two slots and supports 16GB of DDR4 2400Mhz RAM

Hmmm. It's a celeron so I guess it has one slot. Obviously, the task manager is not reliable though since it clearly says 1 of 2 slots used. TM.PNG

Hello everybody,

I need to upgrade my RAM mem, but, looking also your web shop, I still do not understand which type is suitable for my notebook. For what I understood, this PC has two slots currently occupied with 4GB each. So, I need to remove them and install two banks of new memories. Which type of mem I need to reach 16GB (2x8GB if my assumption is correct) ?

Other doubt: the HP system information states 32GB is the max capacity (see pic below). Does it mean I can upgrade up to 32GB (2x16GB)? If yes, could you please provide me the RAM PNs ?

Here below all the information needed to take a decision...I think  🙂

Hi Andrea,

Your PC will support max 32GB of DDR4 2400Mhz RAM. (2x16GB)

At the moment you have two slots with 4GB sticks in each one. So you can upgrade with 8GB sticks or 16GB sticks. The service manual mentions 16GB as max, however HP DDR4 systems will run with 32GB of RAM. You can choose yourpreferred brand such as Crucial, Samsung...

The RAM will run at 2133Mhz.

On page 45 of service manual you can see the steps to replace RAM

Thank you so much for your reply. Just another quick question: can I replace only one 4GB slot with a 16GB? The second slot has 4GB. The total RAM will be 20GB: is this possible? Have a nice day. Andrea.

Hi Andrea,

Yes, you can insert a 16GB stick of DDR4 2400 Mhz in one slot and keep the 4GB in the other slot for a total of 20 GB.

Hope it helps,

David
