HP 250 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a HP 250 G6 (1XN35EA) laptop.

I want to replace the default HDD with

Solid-state Drive (SSD) Samsung 970 EVO, 1TB, PCI Express, M.2 (MZ-V7E1T0BW).

(https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-970-evo-nvme-m-2-1tb-mz-v...)

I have already bought

924981-001  SSD Board M.2 HP 250 G6 255 G6 HP 15-BSxxx 15-BWxxx

924981-001 Bracket SSD for M.2 HP 250 G6 255 G6 HP 15-BSxxx 15-BWxxx

Question #1

Is this SSD compatible with my laptop because I have read the Evo is not always compatible?

(https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/SSD-M-2-NVMe-PCIe/td-p/6417700)

I quote Huffer [Expert]

It will fit but I purposely did not recommend the Evo since some have reported compatibility issues. I have installed the SM951 and PM961 in 3 different HPs and have had no issues. "

Question #2

Will this SSD operate with highest speed given by its interface PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3 or it will not operate at all ?

(https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-970-evo-nvme-m-2-1tb-mz-v...)

Thank you.

After some searching I have finally understood that this laptop HP 250 G6 can handle M.2 connector but as SATA interface and not as PCIe (PCI-Express).

Moreover, one should be aware to two things:

(1) the SSD that is manufactured with M.2 connector (socket) is SATA or PCIe

(2) the laptop that has a M.2 connector (socket) is for SATA or PCIe.

SATA and PCIe are NOT inter-compatible eventhough on newer devices the same M.2 connector is used.

So the ONLY possibilities are:

Laptop [M.2] SATA == SSD [M.2] SATA

Laptop [M.2] PCIe == SSD [M.2] PCIe

If something is wrong into this post please correct.
