HP 250 G7 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have HP 250 G7 running on Inter Core i5-8265U

Continuing this thread https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-250-G7-RAM-upgrade/m-p/8256... it looks like this suggested RAM by Crucial CT16G4SFD8266 is a dual rank memory.

Do I need dual rank or single rank memory if I want to install 2 pieces of this memory, 16 Gb each, 32 in total?

Single rank memory by Crucial has this code: CT16G4SFRA266. So which is better CT16G4SFD8266 or CT16G4SFRA266?

Thanks.

P.S. CPU-Z shows that standard RAM 8 Gb by Hynix is single rank memory.

Hi:

The single ranked memory would be a slightly better option than the dual ranked memory and here's why...

Less heat output, potentially more stable.

Sorry, I forgot to ask in the first message.

If I add the second SSD drive (instead of DVD) is there a limit on a max capacity of it? Can I install 2 TB or only 1 TB?

Thanks again.

You're very welcome.

Your notebook has a M 2 slot that supports NVMe SSD's.

I think it would be much better to install one of those instead of a SATA SSD in a DVD caddy.

I don't want to reinstall the system, want to keep standard NVMe for the system and apps, and just add storage. So, is there a max limit for SSD size, if I put it instead of DVD or as a second (trird) one with purchase of cable, bracket?

Unfortunately, that I do not know.

I don't know why you couldn't install a 2 TB SSD in a caddy.

Hello,

If I replace my DVD drive with DVD caddy with SSD 2.5 Sata drive in it, it will work at low speed? Because of the connection of DVD?

Since I already have DVD drive installed and if I decide to keep it, will I be able to connect SSD using these three parts:

  • Solid-state drive bracket part # L20458-001
  • Solid-state drive connector board part # L22542-001
  • Solid-state drive cable part # L20456-001

Or this cable part and DVD use the same connector on the main board?

Best regards

As far as I am aware there is already a connector on the motherboard to plug the DVD drive into even if the notebook did not come with one.

It may be possible that the DVD connector is not SATA 3, because DVD drives only run at the SATA 1 speed.

But it depends on the SATA speed of the port that the DVD drive connector is hooked up to.

It would not be less than SATA 2 and may be SATA 3, but there is no info on that available.

If you connect a 2.5" SSD, you need these parts:  Chapter 3, page 22 of the manual:

Maintenance and Service Guide HP 250 G7 Notebook PC

(5) Hard drive bracket                                L20455-001
(6) Hard drive connector board               L20454-001
(7) Hard drive/solid-state drive cable    L20456-001
