Hello all,
I have currently tested three docking stations on the USB-C port. The connected monitors do not work with any of them. They remain black. Also, the notebook is not charged. I still have an HP Universal Docking Station here. I connected it to an HP ProBook 470 G5. On this notebook, the station worked perfectly. On my new HP 470 G8 just not.
Is it possible that the notebook does not support a docking station with graphics ports and charging via USB-C?

Thanks and greetings
Dirk

Here is the Service Manual:

This says the USB-C port is data only, which if true would explain why the laptop will not charge through that port and it would not provide native video output.

I have the same problem with my HP 470 G8 laptop and the HP USB C-dock G5. I just bought the dock to be able to use two monitors.

I understand this is not possible trough the USB-C input in my new laptop. Is there another way to connect the dock to the laptop, maybe with a special connector part on the USB-C cable to put the cable from the dock in the normal USB connection of the HDMI connetion in my laptop?

Thanks, Nina

Hi all,

I've stumbled across a similar problem. The monitors connected to the Universal Dock G2 started flickering as soon as the dock was connected to the notebook. What did the job for me is to use the latest DisplayLink driver directly from Synaptics instead of the one that HP delivers. Afterwards it worked like a charm.

Besides that, the charging issue has already be addressed. It seems like the notebook cannot be charged via the USB C port, so an additional power supply needs to be connected even when used with a docking station.

Hope it helps!
