Well, well, well looks like 90% was good enough.

Took out the i5-2540M  and  installed the i7-2720QM

Now all I need to do is load an OS.

That is great news!

Then the only difference between the dual and quad core motherboards must be that the dual core MB's only have two memory slots that accomodate 2 x 8 GB of memory, and the quad core MB's have 4 memory slots to accomodate 4 x 8 GB of system memory.

See chapter 1, page two of the service manual.

@rmw98 :  Please change the solution to this discussion to either @iomare or @REO51ST , because the info I provided was incorrect for your notebook.

The info I provided is correct for the 1st generation business notebooks, however.

The quad core processors cannot be installed in a notebook with a dual core motherboard.

Your very welcome @rmw98

I'm lucky that I have the resources to do research like this.

I'm ordering a CPU as we speak. And an backlit keyboard while i am at it haha!

Thanks,

Roy

Would you by chance be buying it from Ebay???

Like-New-Laptops???

If so then I know that CPU works because it is the one I used.:smileywink:

I'll remove it from the laptop and put it back on the Ebay shelf.

Actually I am!

But it has to be shipped to the Netherlands... Which is quite expensive.

By any chance that this is your Ebay page?

That is the chip I used to test. "LOL :LaughingTears: LOL :LaughingTears: LOL "

Yes we are like-new-laptops.

If you do order from us I will make sure you get some thermal paste with it.

Do you need some memory.

I can add some for free to make shipping worth it.

Unfortunately I do not need any more memory. It is currently specced out haha!

But thank you for your offer!

I guess that if i want an almost 100% guaranteed working( I am keeping in mind that it might not work in my workstation, but I do not think that that will be the case)  CPU for this workstation, that it will cost me just a tiny bit more!

Thanks,

Roy
