I just replaced the battery of my older HP Pavillion notebook because of swelling, probably caused by permanent 100% load because of permanent connection to the adapter.
To avoid that this will happen also in my new HP Envy notebook, I want to set the maximum battery load to 80%. For business notebooks this is possible by means of the HP Battery Health Manager, but my HP Envy notebook probably is not a business notebook. The relevant option (as shown in the instruction for business notebooks) is not available in the BIOS setting of my HP Envy notebook.
My HP Envy notebook is permanently connected to the adapter, so the battery is 100% loaded permanently. To avoid issues with this battery, I want to set the maximum load capacity to 80% for this HP Envy (non-business) notebook. How to set that up?

Hi @dmo6,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP ENVY 17.3 Inch Laptop PC typically includes a Battery Health Manager feature. This feature is designed to optimize the battery's health and extend its overall lifespan.
The Battery Health Manager works by adjusting the charging patterns of the laptop's battery. It offers three modes of operation.
- Maximum Battery Health: This mode limits the battery's maximum charge capacity to 80%. It is suitable for users who frequently keep their laptops plugged in and don't need full battery capacity for extended periods. This mode helps reduce stress on the battery, minimizing wear and tear over time.
- Recommended: This mode allows the battery to charge up to its full capacity, optimizing it for most typical usage scenarios. It strikes a balance between maximizing battery life and providing sufficient charge for portable use.
- Maximum Performance: This mode enables the battery to charge up to its full capacity, allowing users to utilize the maximum battery life for extended periods. However, it may result in increased battery aging over time due to a higher charge level.
To access the Battery Health Manager on an HP ENVY laptop, you can follow these steps.
- Open the HP Support Assistant software on your laptop. If you don't have it installed, you can download it from the HP Support website.
- Once the HP Support Assistant is launched, click on the "Updates" tab.
- Look for an option named "Check for HP updates" or similar, and click on it to scan for available updates.
- If there are any updates available for your laptop's software and drivers, follow the on-screen prompts to install them.
- After updating the necessary software, go to the "My Devices" tab in the HP Support Assistant.
- Find your laptop in the list of devices and click on it to open the device details.
- Look for a section related to battery settings or power management. In this section, you should find the Battery Health Manager option.
- Click on the Battery Health Manager option to access the settings.
- From there, you can choose the desired mode: Maximum Battery Health, Recommended, or Maximum Performance.
- Select the mode you prefer, and the Battery Health Manager will adjust the charging patterns accordingly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden,
I executed the steps you indicated, but after selecting my laptop in the HP Support Assistent, I could not find the section related to battery settings or power management, so was not able to set it as required. Can you show me where I can find this section related to battery settings or power management?
Thanks,
Daan
