Cheers,

I got a hold of an older laptop - HP Compaq 530 & I want to upgrade (for starters) the CPU. After doing some research I ordered the Intel T7600 CPU off eBay. About 21 days ago it arrived & I put it in my laptop, but sadly it doesn't work though.

But first things first.

The default installed CPU that was inside the laptop is the Intel T2050. According to CPU-Z program the Motherboard is model 30D5 with the Intel i945GM chipset (Rev. 03) & the Intel 82801GHM (ICH7-M/U) Rev. A1 Southbridge. BIOS is the last version (F.07, 68MVU). GPU is Intel Mobile 945GM Express Chipset Family (Revision 3).

So what happens if I put inside the new T7600 CPU & assemble everything back together ? After turning on the power button the laptop does turn on, but it automatically shuts off after 5s or after the yellow LED blinks about 6 times (going green afterwards). I get no video or POST by the way during this time.

I did some research & my symptoms match those of a dead CPU. I highly doubt it that the motherboard killed it, so I'm suspecting that I bought it faulty in the first place. Which is though a stretch, but it can happen, right ?

Prior to putting in the new CPU, I resetted the BIOS settings to factory defaults. I even disabled the Dual Core parameter just to be safe. The BIOS CR2032 battery is fine (holding those 3 V).

For the sake of testing I borrowed a 2GB 800 MHz Samsung memory stick from another laptop.

So my torment is WHICH & BEST CPU (given the information in my post) I could really put inside this laptop that would SURELY work ? That or I should try another trick to get the T7600 working at last (if possible)

Some claim they got the T7200 working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL2PHrjYxFM

Thanks in advance &...

Best Regards,

David

Take a read of the older (2012) thread below involving a successful processor upgrade in an HP 530.

There was nothing really useful to me on that link.

But after I had posted this topic I went on some additional searching on the web & I accidentally stumbled onto this topic which intrigued me: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/hp530-bios-f-08-sp43035-exe-ftp...

Apparently there's a newer BIOS version available for this laptop than the current one that I have (F.07), however when I try to click on the link to get the file (SP43035.exe) I get a "550 failed to change directory" error.
