HP - Compaq Pavilion 17-ab301na

Hi, I'm looking at adding an SSD to my HP - Compaq Pavilion 17-ab301na. My first assumption would be that I'd need to replace my HDD, but is there space in my laptop to add in an SSD and still have my HDD too?
Also, it says it would fit "2.5" and M.2/SATA" - is this one or the other, and would which I pick impact on if there's space for another drive too? I'm unsure if I should just be picking which type I want, or if this influences other parts.
I'd rather avoid opening up my laptop to look inside until I have the parts ready to install, so would really appreciate advice on what to buy.

Thanks

Hi,

You should be able to install an M2 SATA3 SSD such as the M2 Samsung 860 Evo or similar. You can get of your desired capacity (no limit).

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-860-SATA-Internal-MZ-N6E1T0BW/dp/B07822Z77M/ref=sr_1_1?crid=J32SSD7JS...

However, first, you should check if the actual slot is present on the motherboard, as sometimes notebooks that did not come with M2 SSD are missing the physical slot. On page 40 of service manual you can see how to remove the bottom cover.

It should be next to the hard drive

You can then move or reinstall the OS on the SSD for great performance gain.

Hope it helps,

David
