OMEN by HP 15t-ax200 CTO Laptop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello HP Community,

Last year I replaced my laptop battery and after three months of usage the battery stopped charging to its maximum capacity, It always stuck at 90% and now present days it stuck at 64% and provides me about 90 minutes of backup. Battery is still in perfect condition not swollen. I also upgraded my laptop BIOS to latest version but problem still exists. Yesterday I searched for Drivers section on HP website and browse for my laptop drivers to see for latest drivers and I noticed that Firmware has latest version that I think I didn't upgraded. I don't how to check for the latest firmware (Not BIOS) version in Windows 10 and now I am curious that whether I should install that or not because I don't know what it will do to my laptop if I install it. I have the latest BIOS but not the firmware. Is both are same thing or there is some difference? I will post the link of that driver here.

Driver Name: HP Consumer Desktop/Notebook PC ME Firmware Update

Driver Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/omen-by-hp-15-ax200-laptop-pc/13810162/sw...

Is it safe to install this firmware update?

What is the difference between this and BIOS Update?

Does it resolve my battery issue or I have to replace my battery again?

I will be grateful to all of you who contribute in addressing to this issue.

Hi @hassaanid2018,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

Excellent description and a great diagnosis. It is greatly appreciated.

the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) and firmware are not the same, but they are related concepts.

BIOS (Basic Input/Output System): The BIOS is a specific type of firmware that is embedded in a computer's motherboard. It is responsible for initializing hardware components, performing a power-on self-test (POST), and providing a basic interface for the operating system to communicate with hardware during the boot-up process. The BIOS is essential for the computer to start and load the operating system.

Firmware: Firmware is a broader term that refers to software that is permanently stored on hardware devices. It includes the software that controls the operation of various hardware components, such as the BIOS, but it can also refer to the software on other devices like hard drives, network adapters, printers, and more. Firmware is typically stored in non-volatile memory and is responsible for managing and controlling the hardware it is associated with.

In summary, while the BIOS is a specific type of firmware that is responsible for managing the motherboard and the initial stages of the boot process, firmware is a more general term encompassing software that is permanently stored on hardware devices and controls their operation.

Updating the BIOS or firmware on a computer should not damage the battery power. These updates are typically designed to improve the performance, compatibility, and security of the hardware and software components of a computer.

However, during a firmware or BIOS update, it's essential to ensure that your computer has a stable power source. If a firmware update is interrupted due to a power loss or other issues, it can potentially result in a corrupted firmware, which may require additional steps to recover. To prevent such interruptions, it's a good practice to have your laptop or computer connected to a reliable power source or have a fully charged battery before initiating firmware updates.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
