The HP-Envy 16 can 'theoretically' be charged via the USB Type-C port. The problem is that it only works when the computer is switched off - not even in sleep mode.
When I plugged it into a USB Type-C charger, I got the message "For full performance, connect a higher-capacity power adapter. Your computer will run in reduced performance mode and may not charge". And it doesn't charge at all. I tried different USB-C chargers, including one with 130W of power - and the result is still the same.
Funny - HP DOES NOT offer a compatible USB Type-C charger, but at the same time blocks any third party charger!
YES - this is deliberately blocked. You can bypass the blocking mechanism by plugging in the original power supply and the USB-C power supply, then unplugging the original. The laptop will still charge - I tested it with my 65W docking station. Since I do not use the laptop for games but for office work, 65W seems more than enough to charge the battery to 100% while working.
The problem has been described in the thread below with no solution, neither reaction from HP.
My problem is as follows: I need an alternative power supply when travelling as the original one is mounted under my desk. Some time ago I bought a 130W USB-C power supply for my second HP Envy (older 17-inch model) and it worked fine. However, it does not work with my new HP Envy 16.
HP Envy 16 should not be sold with information that charging through USB Type-C is possible while no compatible adapted is offered and all alternative power supplies ale blocked.

If you want to use the USB-C charger, it must be at least 200 WATT, you cannot use chargers at the lower AC watts that your laptop has, but you must charge with the device turned off.
Many chargers are available on the market

Thanks for your post.
No, the laptop does not require 200W USB-C charger. It works fine with my DELL Universal Dock D6000 (65W) provided that I "fool" the HP software protection first.
You wrote that "Many chargers are available on the market". Can you list some? Not docking stations, but +200W USB-C chargers? I need a possibly small and lightweight traver charger - big HP docking station does not work.
I called HP support with this question and they informed me that "HP deos not offer any UCB-C power chargers of such specification.

This search should actually be done by you to find a seller in your country, you can see an example in the following link

Actually I have spent quite a time looking for 200W USB-C charger and I could not find any.
If you had a look at the model you proposed you would find out that 200W is the total power output on all 6 ports while the maximum on one USB-C is 100W.
Appreciate that you try to help but please do not give misleading suggestions. Someone may decide to purchase this Ugreen charger for 130€ just to find out it does not work.

What bios do you have? I have this laptop and it will not charge with any USB-C charger, even a 200W charger, unless it is fully powered off and most people have the same results. Are you sure it is charging with USB-C? I am using BIOS version F.20 and it will not charge with USB-C with this BIOS version.
This is a BIOS lock that HP enabled, as you can bypass it by first plugging in a charger to the barrel connector, then plugging in USB-C; when you remove the barrel connector, it will charge and run fine on the USB-C charger. It's a shame HP kept this bug in the BIOS.

My BIOS version is F.21. It works exactly as you specified: plug the standard charger, plug USB-C charger (or docking station like in my case), unplug standard charger and ... TA-DA - charging works with my 65W Dell Universal Dock connection.
Agrre that it is a shame - particularly as HP does not offer ANY own USB-C solution as an alternative to the factory charger. Blocking third-party USB-C chargers is typical "dog in the manger" behaviour,
