Hi

buying ssd will be better if you already have

Then I suggest you to buy Amazon.com: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache...

anyway you can buy any latest harddive  which is compatible with your laptop

Changing harddrive fom a service center will be a good option.

Hi,

Well if it has died you will need to replace it.

You can replace with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD of your preferred brand and capacity. It will give a great boost to the everyday performance of the PC.

Example

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Factor-Intelligent-Magician-Software/dp/B08PC43D78/ref=sr_1_5?dchil...

On page 41 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04091762.pdf

You can create a bootable USB drive with the OS on it (on different PC) and then use to reinstall

Download Windows 10

After installation let the PC completely update and it will find the necessary drivers.

Hope it helps,

David

Would the following drive work for me?

Where do I get the silicone HD bracket that ensures a snug fit?

Hi,

Yes the one you linked will work.

It would be better to install an SSD, even the cheaper ones will be much faster than the mechanical drive. So something like this would speed up the system.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Crucial-CT480BX500SSD1Z-Internal-Solid-State/dp/B07G3KRVWP/ref=sr_1_2?dchil...

You can remove the rubber from the old drive. The part number for the Hard Drive hardware kit (cable and rubber) is 720237-001

So, you could perform an online search with part number.

If you use an SSD or even the regular HDD you could also just use some strong double-sided thin foamy tape to keep the drive in place.

Hope it helps,

David
