I have a HP ENVY 17t-j100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC. Can any one point to where the
“24-GB mSATA solid-state drive” is located? I need to remove it so I can upgrade to a SSD.
Thank You.

Hi! @bidbear12,
Thanks for writing to us.
Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.
You can find the mSATA port next to the Hard drive and wireless card slot. Please find the image attached below to know more information.
Note: Check the red circle marked in the image for mSATA slot.
Hope this answers your query!

Hi! @bidbear12,
Thanks for sharing the picture.
I have checked the records and found the steps to replace the mSATA drive. Please try the steps recommended below.
Before you begin: Remove the battery, service cover, secondary hard disk drive, primary hard disk drive, optical drive, and base enclosure.
Steps
- Remove the two 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the mSATA drive to the system board and allow it to release to the spring tension position.
- Grasp the mSATA drive by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
- Place the mSATA drive in a static dissipative bag.
mSATA drive replacement
Steps
- Grasp the mSATA drive by the edges and remove it from the static dissipative bag.
- Align the notch in the mSATA drive with the key in the mSATA drive slot on the system board.
- At an angle, gently insert the mSATA drive into its slot on the system board.
- Press the mSATA drive down and replace the two 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the mSATA drive to the system board.
Let me know if this helps!
Take Care!

Not sure where the first picture came from but its not your model and I am not sure where these new instructions come from. The Manual has no instructions for accessing or replacing the mSSD or getting to the slot and has no image of it. mSATA slot is on the backside of the motherboard and is not accessible without removing the motherboard. I had one of this model laptop a few years back and have actually done the disassembly so can speak from personal experience. The Manual does not show it except you can see the mSATA slot on p. 79 (unidentified and partial image).
