HP ENVY x360 - m6-w105dx (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I am wanting to upgrade my RAM and hard drive. I think I have the hard drive figured out, I just need to know if it is possible to upgrade the RAM for my machine, how many slots are there, and what is the most RAM I can upgrade to.

HP ENVY m6-w105dx x360 Convertible

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the notebook supports 2 x 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory.

HP ENVY x360 m6 ConvertibleModel numbers: m6-w000 – m6-w099Model numbers: m6-w100 – m6-w199HP ENVY x...

This should be a compatible 8 GB DDR3L-1600 memory chip to install in the empty memory slot.

Thanks.

That is what I was thinking, but I was confused because when I used command prompt and powershell to find the max RAM capacity and slots, it shows 16 GB max but only one slot.

You're very welcome.

The service manual indicates that there are 2 memory slots.

It is very unusual to have a 16 GB DDR3 memory chip.

They are very expensive.

HP Recommended

Yeah, I was thinking it may just show 1 slot because it only has 1 8gb RAM installed.

Is it possible to exceed the maximum RAM? For example, what would happen if I installed 2 X 16GB DDR3 chips?

HP Recommended

2x16 GB of DDR3 memory is all but guaranteed not to work and it would cost you a fortune to find that out.

HP Recommended

Thanks, I'll stick 2x8GB.

Do you recommend I get 1 8GB DDR3 chip to add to the existing in the second slot, or should I replace the existing with 2 new 8GB DDR3 chips?

You're very welcome

I'd just buy the one chip.

It should be compatible with the memory HP installed.

Thanks, I'll do that.

I have one more question regarding the SSD upgrade.

I am planning to get a 2TB SSD to replace the 1TB hard drive.

Is it worth getting a 2TB instead of a 1TB SSD to replace the old 1TB hard drive?

Below are the SSD's I am considering:

Yes, either of those drives should be fine as well as the Western Digital Blue SA510 2TB 2.5" SSD.
