HP EliteBook 840 G5 Notebook PC

I have an HP EliteBook 840 G5 notebook which is now out of warranty. I did the memory test during bootup and got a memory failed error with failure ID 9CU6JM-977BQQ-MFGJ3G-40PX03 on Memory Module 2. I have just 1 memory module of 16GB in slot 2. What is the meaning of this error? is it a hardware issue or a virus issue? The notebook is working fine as of now, I am not noticing any issues. Any recommendations on troubleshooting this?

Hi:

You will probably have to install a new memory chip.

Enter the required info at the link below and you should be provided with a general overview of the problem and the most likely way to fix it.

HP Customer Support - Service Center

What I don't understand is if your notebook only has one 16 GB memory chip, why is it in slot 2 and not slot 1.

Try the chip in slot 1 and see if the failure code goes away.

The chip was installed that way from the factory. I will try switching it. Thanks
