I have a WD My Passport external drive (1 TB).
The drive works on my two Dell laptops (one personal, one from work)
When I plug it to my HP EliteBook, nothing happens...
The led light blinks on the external drive, but I don't see the drive.
This seems to be a common issue with HP, I found three unanswered questions in this forum:

I've even tried to boot my HP laptop from a Linux usb stick, and look at the kernel logs while I plug the WD disk, and I don't see any logs.
If I plug a USB stick, I see the details of the USB in the kernel log.
This doesn't look like a problem specific to Windows...
Maybe something related to the BIOS config on usb ports? I'm not sure if the WD My Passport requires more power than the laptop is sending.

I have the same issue with HP Elite Book g9 and WD My Passport External Drive. PC not recognising it , the drive light is on and drive is running sound, But PC is not detecting it and device manager not showing any new hardware detection.
