HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15m-eu0000 (267R9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I went to wake up my Envy x360 today and it did nothing. The case was hot to the touch. There have been NO changes in hardware or software in the last 2 weeks (at least). I ended up holding the power button for 60+ seconds and suddenly everything cooled down and I could power on. Nothing else seems to have changed as far as software or settings. I just don't need this panic again. This is the only computer I have and I am attending college online. If this computer dies, everything I've done so far will have been for nothing. Is there some specific reason this may have happened? I literally have not added or changed any software or hardware settings... except one. About a month ago my keyboard required using the fn key for media controls. I changed the BIOS setting but nothing in the behavior changed. I want to use media controls without having to press the function key. What gives?

I would run a full diagnostic on it in the UEFI preboot environment. If you put it to sleep and then placed it somewhere the vents were blocked like on a bed with a soft top it can overheat. Also keep it out of the sun.

Look at the "outside the OS" diagnostic options. Very unlikely anything you did in the BIOS has anything to do with this. Last advice: back up. Get a backup drive or set up a full cloud backup. Then in the event something bad happens all your data is safe. Likely much of it is in the Cloud anyway such as OneDrive.
