HP Recommended

Hi everyone.

As of the end of 2025, has HP provided any official explanation or solution for the keyboard freezing issue on the HP Envy 17.3?

In my case, the problem started about once every two months, but now it happens almost daily, and of course, after the guarantee expiration. The keyboard suddenly stops responding, and the only temporary fix is a full reboot.

What has already been done:

  • Clean reinstall of Windows

  • BIOS updated to the latest version

  • Firmware and drivers updated

None of this helped.

Has anyone actually found a real solution? Is this a known hardware defect?

Does replacing any internal component at a service center (keyboard, cable, motherboard, etc.) fix the issue?

Any confirmed experience or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi @dnmsv,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

Kindly follow the steps below to help isolate or reduce the occurrences:

1.Test in BIOS or Diagnostic Mode
This helps check if the issue is software vs. hardware.

  • Restart and repeatedly press F2/F10/Esc to enter HP Diagnostics or BIOS.
  • Try typing in BIOS menus:
    • If it also freezes there, that strongly suggests hardware/connection issues.

2. Disable Fast Startup
Some users find temporary relief by disabling Fast Startup in Windows Power Options.

3. Driver Rollback / Fresh Install of Keyboard Drivers
Even though you updated them, sometimes rolling back to a previous driver can help.

4. System File Check
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

sfc /scannow

to check and fix potential OS file corruption.

5. Safe Mode / Clean Boot
Boot into Safe Mode and see if the keyboard freezes there. If it doesn’t, it could point to software/third-party conflict rather than hardware.

6. Hardware Diagnostics
To run the HP UEFI keyboard test, shut down your PC, turn it on and repeatedly press Esc to get the Startup Menu, then press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI), and in the menu, select System Tests > Component Tests > Keyboard Test, then Run once and follow the on-screen prompts to press keys and check for errors.

I hope this helps.
