I have a new HP Envy-17t-bw000ct0 laptop with a USB 3c (thunderbolt symbol) port, but I can not find any HP drivers or thunderbolt hubs listed as compatible.  The user manual identifies the port correctly, but gives no other useful information.  Please advise on how to use this port with compatible software and docking stations.

Thanks for offering your help.  My HP Envy has the following identifying information. [ Model: HP Envy-17t-bw000ct0  Product ID: 2YY28AV  SN: 8CG8 356 PLY]  I am new to using USB 3c ports so any compatibility information is appreciated.

USB-C ports/cables can carry significantly more power, so they can be used to charge larger devices like laptops. They also offer up to double the transfer speed of USB 3. While connectors are not backwards compatible, the standards are, so adapters can be used with the older device.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

My question is where are the Thunderbolt drivers for my Model HP Envy-17bw000ct0; Product ID: 2YY28AV.  I do not see such information on the HP support site, at  Intel drivers support or any of the Thunderbolt docking station vendor sites.  I do find Thunnderbolt drivers and installation information for other HP Laptop Models.  It is as if they painted the symbol on the case and in the user manual, but forgot to install the hardware and/or drivers.  This shouldn't be hard!  Any insite would be appreciated.

To get the answer to this question, there are no specific drivers that refer to the Thunderbolt, however, you can Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I have been using the HP Support Assistant to update my BIOS and all of my drivers, but there is no driver that I can identify that needs updating or that is clearly a driver for the Thunderbolt port.  Still not a happy camper.  How do I recognize the Thunderbolt driver if there is one for this Envy Laptop model?

As I mentioned earlier there are no specific drivers, however, when you update USB device driver the thunderbolt gets automatically update.

Are you sure the port is Thunderbolt 3?

My Envy (15-cn0xxx) has a lightning bolt icon above the USB 3 Gen 1 icon, but there is no arrow at the bottom, thus not the thunderbolt icon. ...Unfortuntaley, HP doesn't do a good job of documenting USB C and it's capabilities. I'm actually in the process of speaking with corporate about this problem, because nearly every tech I called gave me a slightly different answer for my USB C port. And HP is part of the USB-IF that sets the standard. 😕

Some USB-C ports, such as the ones pictured above, have a "Lighting Thunderbolt" logo that shows its Thunderbolt 3 compatible.
