HP Envy 27 + HP Elitebook 8570p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

So I just purchased two 4k monitors - an HP Envy 27 and an LG 27UD68-W to use with my HP Elitebook 8570p laptop ( with AMD Radeon HD 7570M) + dock. I am intending to have both monitors running in 4k, and if the built-in display will work too as a third monitor then that's a bonus. I am using two DisplayPort cables to connect the two monitors tot he DisplayPort Outputs (one to the laptop and one to the dock). My LG 27UD68-W is working perfectly, displaying in 4k. However, the maximum resolution on my HP Enzy 27 is 2560 x 1600 and looks a bit distorted. Windows does not give me the option to display in a higher resolution than this.

To troubleshoot, I've tried updating my graphics card driver and the HP Envy 27 driver, connecting the monitors individually to the PC using all combinations of connections (swapping around the two DisplayPort cables and two DisplayPort outputs). but still the same issue - my LG monitor displays in 4k but my HP Envy 27 does not. I thought at first that one of the DisplayPort cables might not support 4k but they both worked with the LG so that theory is wrong.

I tested the HP Envy 27 with a Lenovo laptop using an HDMI and was able to get 4k. So there seems to be a compatibility issue with my HP Elitebook 8570p. Hoping someone can shed some light on this.

Thanks,

Matt

What is your dock ? What is the TOTAL of resolution it supports ? The video card supports much less

You can simply work out TOTAL resolutions of 2 monitors and TOTAL resolutions out from the dock to see why.

@Banhien

Thanks for reaching out. The dock is an HP dock for this laptop. The Regulatory model is HSTNN-I11X and the HP Part number appears to be 688169-001.

However, I don't think there is a bottleneck in total supported resolution because when I try to connect the monitors individually to the laptop (i.e. 1 monitor at a time) either directly to the laptop or through the dock, my LG monitor gets 4k resolution while the HP Envy 27 can only achieve 2560 x 1600. So the graphics card and dock have no problem producing 4k resolution on my LG monitor but when I swap for the HP Envy 27, I am not getting the same resolution.

Hoping there is a simple solution I am overlooking.

Thanks,

Matt

I deleted the driver for the HP Envy 27 and the supported resolution dropped to 1920 x 1080.
