I'm trying to find out if there is any kind of solution for this issue, which seems to be very widespread.

Several months ago, 2 days before my last semester of school, my hinge broke and the screen split as I opened the lid. Keep in mind I had NEVER used it as a tablet or opened it other than as a normal laptop. I had the computer for a year and a half at that point, so of course it was out of warranty. I didn't have time to send it off or take it to have it repaired, so I bought a new computer. Now that I'm done with school, I went to a local repair shop to get an estimate on what it would take to fix it. I was told the back cover would need to be replaced along with the hinges, so with labor, it will cost me $360 FOR A COMPUTER I PAID OVER 900 DOLLARS FOR 18 MONTHS PRIOR! So now I'm stuck with a broken computer that I can't afford to fix? I have a very pricy paperweight. Is HP seriously not going to acknowledge they really messed up with the design of these laptops? The guy at the repair shop started nodding as soon as I said the words "envy" and "hinge." As much as these machines cost, you should recall them for the faulty hardware/design. I'm livid about this and will definitely avoid HP products from now on because this is ridiculous and pathetic. I'll also be certain to let EVERYONE know what I experienced. Adding to my frustration, I couldn't even reply to others with the exact same problem. It also took 10 minutes of searching to find out how to post on this forum. It's the most non user friendly forum I've ever encountered. So, if anyone has found this from googling, RUN in the other direction. My computer performed beautifully...too bad I can't open or close it.

To anyone who may be reading this post, I just want to update it so that you'll know the only solution I've been offered is a discount for repair. Anyone else out there having this problem, do you feel it's unfair that HP won't take responsibility for the shoddy hinges and repair the envys for those having this issue? I've seen many, many people with the same issue. It's not just a fluke. The hinges are doomed to fail. If you're reading this and thinking of buying an HP that has the ability to open 360, don't do it. I paid over 900 bucks for my envy, only opened it up like a regular laptop, never even so much as handled it slightly rough, yet now it's unusable. I only had it 18 months at the time the screen popped away from the outer section. All I did was open it. Run far, far away. I know I'll never purchase another HP product. So disappointing.

I think it is design flaw ....

Mine is HP Pavilion 15-bc021tx

Now got cracked both left and right hinge and yes ... it out of warranty really mad at this ... it just feel like time bomb if you not use it as desktop ... it will be happen to every laptop that having this bad design that plastic won't hold the amount of pressure for long (well actually in many case it break before warranty run out ... )

This is so much waste of resource ... I hope HP consider this ... come out with something both apology or ... tell anyone they actually fix this problem for the newer model ... it is nightmare ...

It's ridiculous! I've already warned a few people on Facebook who said they were looking for a laptop, and I will continue to do so. I don't want anyone else to end up in this situation. HP needs to step up and do the right thing.
