Purchased HP laptop (HP-ENVY-15-k163cl) from Costco USA 2.5 years ago for around USD 800+. The right hinge broke with in an year and recently the left hinge also broke. This product has 1 year manufacturer warranty plus 2 more years of warranty from costco. This model number is custom built for costco and not available outside costco.
I am outside USA (currently in India). The HP service centre here says that the warranty on this product is not valid in India since this specific model is not released in India. They can't even fix it at our cost. The spare part (hinge) is not available in market. This means basically no fix for this problem although it appears to be a manufacturing defect (based on similar issues expressed by other customers.
My suggestion to customer is that do not by HP laptop especially from Costco (or similar venders who have custom model build)
I still have 8 year old Acer which has no such issue.
I am surprised that reputed company like HP is selling defective products (even hig end models) like this!
Can HP provide any help regarding this issue?

Dear Huffer (Provost),
Thanks for the link to the laptop manual which has all part members.
The cost of the hinge on ebay is not much and I can get it from my friend in US.
My only concern is that the eBay part description clearly says that “this hinges fit non-touchscreen” whereas mine is touchscreen version.
In any case I will try this option and update you on this forum (it may take few months though).
I will also check with my local technician whether any other related parts are required.
Thanks a lot.
Regards,
Phaneendra

Asking for help after trashing HP? That 8 year old Acer is probably built like a tank. Nobody wants to buy such things now. Everyone wants thin and sleek and the engineering has proven to be a bit of a challenge.
OK this is a user to user Forum. We are not officially working for HP but I can tell you the Costco models may have a custom SKU product number burt they use the same parts as other models in the series. If you got the hinges do you think you can find someone in India to install them for you? I am guessing you can.
This is the Service Manual:
See p. 23:
For use with Touchscreen models 763105-001
HP has them in stock. You should provide the local HP Center with this part number and I bet they can find the part. It was used in many many models including some sold in India I am sure.
They are a bit expensive there. You can find them cheaper on eBay:
The seller above is in China and ships worldwide.

Thanks for the quick response.
The US parts link in your response does not ship to India (shipped only with in US)
This part 763105-001 is not available in HP Support site for India (https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00372736).
Few months ago I spoke to HP service centre in India for these hinges. They said they do not carry this part and also told me that they CAN NOT service my laptop which was purchased in US.
The eBay link says that it is for non-touch model (mine is a touch screen model). Also I am not sure about eBay parts because I got the screen back cover for same laptop from eBay (ordered and in USA and got it to India through my friend) with correct part number and did not fit at all.
Any further help is appreciated.

The eBay part is the right part number. There is always a risk of misunderstanding on eBay but Buyers are pretty well protected. I guess you could use the same friend to buy the HP Part in the US and ship it to you in India.
I am not HP, I am not a parts Store, I'm just a fellow end user. I wish there were more I can do.
