Hi,

I do not think there is much you can do as they are considered customer non-accesible non upgradeable parts. (The service manual is only for HP service centers)

Maybe you can replace the M2 drive with a large 2.5" SSD and replace the HDD which is in your PC at the moment.

I understand and don't like the idea of excluding the slot on the motherboard just because it did not come with M2 SSD. However, that is the way it is.

Let me know if you need further help.

All the best,

David

Hi,

Your PC supports M2 SATA (NGFF) SSDs. which we can see on page 2 of the service manual. On page 27 of service manual you can see the steps for installing the drive.

Before buying the drive open the bottom of PC and see if the actual slot is present. HP sometimes in the past has excluded the physical slot, if the PC was not purchased with M2 SSD. So check, it should be present and you can see on the link below the location of the M2 SSD by clicking on solid state drive

Hope it helps,

David

There is no slot. Can this be warrantied? I specificially bought this laptop for the purpose of upgrading to this drive and I have already bought the drive. I see a bit of a false advertising issue. I would be happy with a board but they are upwards of $500.00.2.png20180319_010951.jpg

I have the exact laptop model for a year now and I'm needing to change the OS on the HDD to an SSD. I'm not able to open it up because I'm having trouble finding my torx screwdriver. But my question is (since you opened yours up)... is it possible to use an SSD AND HDD at the same time? I'll be going back to college and I'm wanting to use th HDD as a storage only drive, and the SSD for the OS.

There is no open headers for power or an extra hard disk. There are adapters (not approved by hp) and also you can get a drive bay to replace the optical drive if you don't use it much. Is a shame there is a decent space unused on the other side of the board but a 30 cent part was worth the savings for the engineers.

So that's a no? It's not able to use an SSD and HDD at the same time?

Hi,

It is not possible to use an SSD and HDD at the same time as the M2 slot is missing. The best choice would be to get a large 2.5" SSD for the PC. The HDD which you remove you can insert into a housing and use as an external drive to save data you do not need all the time.

Hope it helps,

David
