All.
I have had every photo of this issue taken down so I cannot post one of my solution, but I have found a temporary practical fix for this problem before the device is sent in for repair.
Since the hinge failed and I could not close the device, I opened the display to 180-deg to take the load off of the hinge and rested it on a flat surface. I was able to slide a mini binder clip (some people call them alligator clips) over the end of the screen, lid, and hinge within. Then I simply pinched and disconnected the handles on the clip so they were not interfering. This puts a constant clamping force on the whole assembly, so while the plastic is broken within the screen and lid, it can still be used as usual. Pressure is applied through the clip to both the front and back of the screen/lid assembly so I would recommend putting some padding on the screen side at least to avoid further damage. I used a rectangle cut of shop towel material to pad mine.
This has held for a month, and other than some superficial damaged caused by metal on metal contact it seems like a great way to get around a failed hinge before I can get the device in for service. It is perfectly usable in any screen position. Laptop, tent, and tablet configurations.
Hopefully this helps those who rely on their device on a daily basis like I do.

The same thing happen to me. It's a common problem with HP computer. I called them and told them that I paid so much money for the laptop for then to have build it with cheap parts. Due to it not being my fault that the they put inexpensive parts on a $1000, that they had to fix it for. I gave them a hard time. They asked me to send it and they fixed it. But, now the fan is making so much noise and the battery is not charging. I've only had my laptops for a couple of months and it's been giving so much problems 🤦♀️ This is the last time I buy an HP. I'm getting me an Apple next time.

Same thing happened to me last evening. No drops. Brought the computer to do some work while watching my daughter's swim practice. Went to open the screen, it opened with a loud snap. Two screws fell out from the left side, and the lower left screen is totally cracked. I've gently used this computer over the past 2 or so years. Unacceptable that I'd have to replace it now. Please help!
