Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop battery no longer accepts a charge when plugged in. Have reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery according to related posts in forum. Also have run diagnostics via HP support assistant. Battery seems to be fine (it was replaced about two years ago) although in the Battery Check (Support Assistant), I get the error message: Logic State: OK_Deep_Discharge; Charge State: Not available.

Laptop runs fine when plugged in, but has 0% reserve left.

 

Any guidance appreciated.

Unfortunately, that error message means that the main battery has lost too much capacity to have any service life left.

 

You will need to replace the battery with a new one.

 

There are a few things that can cause this.

 

Leaving it plugged into a power adapter for an extended period of time or letting the battery go below 20% charge too many times can cause it to go into an unrecoverable deep discharge state.

 

If you want to replace the battery on your own, here are your options, one of which has higher capacity and gives longer mobile use :

1)  3-cell, 61-WHr, 5.36-WHr, Li-ion  HP Part number  849315-856

2)  3-cell, 41-WHr, 3.63-WHr, Li-ion  HP Part number 849314-856

I appreciate the prompt reply. But glad you could recommend a relatively easy fix. Surprised the battery which wasn't replaced that long ago didn't last longer - i don't use exclusively - on battery that often.

Do you also recommend that when the laptop is not in a state of use for several hours - eg. overnight - that it is put into sleep mode, or shut down entirely - to help preserve battery integrity?

I recommend that you shut it down when you are not going to use it shortly. (i.e. overnight)
