Hallo,
Thank you for the resources you managed to gather at such a short notice.
Here is a link to the SSD I purchased:
From the specs it has that S.M.A.R.T support.
Do the firmware updates apply to my HP Envy dv6t-7200 CTO so that it can be able to read/detect the SSD when I connect it via USB port using my SATA to USB 3.0 adapter I showed in my photo earlier, or are they supposed to update the SSD firmware directly?

I suggest that you update the SSD with the firmware on a different PC.
Connect it either to a SATA port in the PC or with a USB to SATA connector and then apply the update to the SSD.
The Firmware update will let you know if it is successful and also if it does not find a compatible product.
I would have know way of knowing if that will specifically provide a fix for your laptop.
Updating firmware is recommended on SSD products for additional compatibility.
