I have a HP Envy dv6t-7200 CTO laptop and want to replace its HDD with it with a SAMSUNG SSD 870 QVO SATA III 2.5 inch 1 TB.

Is it possible?

I suggest that you update the SSD with the firmware on a different PC.

Connect it either to a SATA port in the PC or with a USB to SATA connector and then apply the update to the SSD.

The Firmware update will let you know if it is successful and also if it does not find  a compatible product.

I would have know way of knowing if that will specifically provide a fix for your laptop.

Updating firmware is recommended on SSD products for additional compatibility.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Can you please give me a guide on how I can do it?

HP Recommended

Sure! The process is the same, just use the SSD n place of the legacy HDD.

Thank you, maybe the SSD I bought is defective. After I put it into my laptop, does not respond when I try to boot with my OS installation USB flash drive, it gets stuck just after I press the F9 key to go into the boot options screen.

Does that mean that you have used DiskPart to format, initialize and assign a drive letter?

Sometimes without a drive letter an SSD is not recognized as being installed.

The knowledgebase article that I wrote on upgrading to an SSD may help you resolve the issue.

The SSD is new, I have not used it before. After reading your article, I plugged the SSD using a USB cable in the picture and tried the DiskPart utility, still it is not recognized. You can see the device I use to connect the SSD to my laptop.

Actually, if you can't select the OS installation USB flash drive as the initial boot device, it may be the problem.

Did you use RUFUS to create the installer?

How was it created and what type volume is it?  (MBR or GPT)

If you selected GPT in RUFUS, that is why the BIOS balks when you try to boot it. Your notebook will only recognize MBR volume types.

Hi,

My laptop has always been installed with GPT, and actually I used the Windows Media Creation Tool to create the OS installation USB flash drive. My laptop currently has Windows 10 Home. The problem is when I boot, before the HP logo, I press F9 and it is stuck there. Even when I press F10 to enter BIOS configurations, it is stuck still. So I simply returned the HDD into its place and when I boot up now, both F9 and F10 work as intended, and when I reach the option to select drives during OS installation, all partitions of my HDD are available.

I still have a feeling there is something with that SSD.

Yes.

From that description it does sound like  it.

Manufacturers have tools that will provide health reports on their products.

I will investigate and see if I can find a link to the applicable one for you.

The Samsung Magician software for Consumer SSD product that you already have sould be capable of providing a S.M.A.R.T. report for the SSD. It can be used on your other PC with the SSD connected by USB.

One thing I have already found is the most recent firmware upgrade for your SSD on the Samsung web document at the link below this line. Here is the download link for it. https://semiconductor.samsung.com/resources/software-resources/Samsung_SSD_870_EVO_SVT02B6Q_Win.iso
