HP Envy number lock doesn't work

No matter what I do I can't get the number lock key to work. The numbers won't work. They default to direction keys - up down page up page down etc.

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check Num Lock key: Ensure that the Num Lock key on your keyboard is functioning properly. Press the Num Lock key to toggle it on and off. Sometimes the Num Lock key may be combined with other keys, so make sure you're pressing the correct key.

Check BIOS settings: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS settings. Look for any options related to the Num Lock key behavior and make sure it's set to the desired function (typically, you want it to be set to "On" or "Enabled").

Check Keyboard settings in Windows:

• Go to Settings > Devices > Typing.
• Scroll down and look for "Advanced keyboard settings."
• Under "Input language hot keys," click on "Change language bar hot keys."
• In the "Text Services and Input Languages" window, go to the "Advanced Key Settings" tab.
• Make sure that the action for the Num Lock key is set to "Turn on numeric key pad."
  Uninstall drivers on Device Manager

Open device manage to Uninstall drivers on Device Manager

1. Open Start.

2. Search for Device Manager and click the top result to open the app.

3. Expand the category with the device driver to remove.

4. Right-click the keyboard and disply (one by one )device and select the Uninstall device option.

5. Click the Uninstall button. Once you complete the steps, the driver will be entirely removed from the computer.

Restart the unit

Update Keyboard Driver: Make sure that your keyboard drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to the Device Manager, locating your keyboard device, right-clicking on it, and selecting "Update driver."

Keyboard Firmware Update: Sometimes keyboard firmware updates can resolve issues with key functionality. Check the HP support website for any available firmware updates for your specific model of HP Envy laptop.

Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date by checking for and installing any available Windows updates. Sometimes, updates can include fixes for keyboard-related issues.

Try an External Keyboard: If the issue persists, try using an external USB keyboard to see if the problem is specific to the laptop's keyboard or if it's a broader system issue.

I found the first suggestion quite insulting. The reason I reported the problem was because the Num Lock key wasn't working.

Secondly, there is no mention in the Bios or anywhere else regarding the Num Lock key

Had already tried an external keyboard and had the same problem. 

I have however found the solution myself through trial and error. No matter how many time the Num Lock is pressed, only the direction keys work.  What I've found (which is not stated anywhere in your website, or anywhere else and has never been mentione to me by all of the HP support people I've spoken too) I tried Left shift plus Alt and Num Lock. That combination turned it on. Now the Num Lock switches from direction keys to numbers.
