Common problems for Battery

My case was forwarded to a very helpful case manager named Miles.  He asked me to send my laptop back in and he would have a special technician take a look at this case personally.  He also asked me to take video of the laptop shutting down due to static shock and leave it on the laptop's Desktop, which I did.

I received the laptop back a week later and it seems like the problem has been fixed!  It seems there was a missing piece of insulation somewhere underneath the top cover of the laptop near the touchpad.  They replaced the top cover and it seems to have fixed the problem.

It was a long journey, but it got fixed in the end.  If you have this problem, don't settle for talking to standard HP support; if you can get your case bumped up to a case manager who will work with you personally, it seems like things will get done.

This sounds promising. HP sent me a new AC power adapter but I still have the same issue. I have reached out to an HP rep asking for a similar repair to yours. Will let you know. Thanks!

Sent mine in for repair and they claimed they could not recreate the problem and sent it back althought it is apparently a wide-spread problem with this ENVY-15.  Now it is out of warranty...I've purchased 3 HPs and recommended the purchase of 3 more - but not sure I'll be able to keep justifying these purchases because of this failure.

Thanks for the tip - I'll give it a try, although I seem to remember having the same issue on battery.  I do know that it is an issue mainly experienced in the winter, with my forced heat and subsequent static electricity.  I've added humidifiers in each room, but that doesn't seem to be solving the problem.  I wonder if there is such thing as a static mat  I could sit the laptop on...will research that next.

Since mine is out of warranty I wonder if I could place this missing part in my own laptop...

I'm having the same problem now with my Envy 360. It's shut down over 20 times. I've ran diagnostics on hardware and software, I've done virus and malware scans, and I've checked the event logs and there is nothing. I feel the shock when I touch the side, TouchPad, and keys and it just shuts off. I've noticed when it goes back on, settings are changed and it starts like I did a restart, not like it's coming out of hybrinatation.

Has there been any solution to this? What is this doing to the computer. what should be my next step. I purchased this in 2014. This is not a cheap, or old computer. Please help.

I wonder if HP would fix my Notebook using the following solution that worked for you:

"missing piece of insulation somewhere underneath the top cover of the laptop near the touchpad.  They replaced the top cover and it seems to have fixed the problem."

Since I sent it in under warranty and they did not fix it because they were unable to recreate the problem, yet there is actually a manufacturing defect/design flaws - I'm hoping they will fix it, or send me the part and I will install it.

Thanks for sharing your solution to this problem that has plagued so many people with these HP Envy's!  Wish me luck.

I came across the same problem too.

I bought HP Envy 15 in 12/2015. Today, when I touched it, I felt a slight static shock. At the same time, the laptop turned off at once and can not power on any more. More frustrating , my laptop had just been repaired a week ago because of the same problem. Now it happened again!  I really doubt the quality of HP laptops.

I just got my computer back from HP. They mentioned something about incorrect voltage in an email to me but the return slip I received said they found nothing wrong. I think they gave me a new plug for it.

I have not had it happen again. I've had it now almost a week. I did loose my plug about six months ago and purchased another HP plug off amazon. I wonder if any of you are using a different plug then what came with the computer?

Thanks.  No, I'm afraid that's not the issue.  This happened with the AC adapter shipped with the product.  This was the first thing they tried - sending out another adapater, but that did not resolve the issue.  I certainly hope yours is resolved though!
