I have a 10 year old HP Envy x360 laptop that is still working well
As expected, the internal battery doesn't last as long as when it was new w/out being plugged in. It might last 1.5 hrs. now w/out being plugged in.
I wanted to ask the community the avg. number of years that a HP laptop battery lasts.?
Using the HP Assistant, I ran a battery check and it states that the laptop batter is "normal".
Q. if I should consider buying a new battery to allow for loner life w/out having to plug in to an outlet.
Q: Cost?
Q: Battery part #?
Same Q;. on how long a CMOS battery lasts.
Thanks, J.

@JohnMah999, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Great to hear your 10-year-old HP Envy x360 is still going strong! I’ll address your questions one by one:
Laptop Battery – Average Lifespan
Most HP laptop batteries last around 2–4 years or 300–500 full charge cycles, depending on usage, charge habits, and temperature exposure. So a 10-year-old battery lasting 1.5 hours unplugged is actually quite good.
Even though HP Support Assistant reports the battery as “Normal,” that simply means it’s not defective — not necessarily that it’s performing at peak capacity.
Should You Replace the Battery?
Yes, if:
- You want more than 1.5 hours of unplugged use
- You rely on portability or use it away from outlets
Otherwise, if you mostly use it plugged in and the current battery isn’t swelling or showing errors, you can keep using it.
Battery Part Number
To find the correct part number:
Open HP Support Assistant > Go to Battery Check > See if it lists the battery model.
Or, check the battery itself (you may need to remove the bottom panel).
Look for labels starting with “HP Spare” followed by numbers like 807956-001, HS04, etc.
Alternatively, you can visit Official HP® Support - Enter the serial number and navigate to Setup and User guides and check Service and Maintenance guide for the part number.
CMOS Battery Lifespan
CMOS (RTC) batteries typically last 5–10 years. Symptoms of a failing CMOS battery include:
- Incorrect system date/time after reboot
- BIOS settings resetting to defaults
- If you’re not seeing those issues, your CMOS battery is likely still fine.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
