Hi, @Ben085
Just remember that if you change the motherboard, to Microsoft, a new motherboard = a new PC and the W7 OEM key you have on the current drive cannot be transferred to a new motherboard and as such, Windows will notify you it needs to be activated.
So, you would need to change the product key in your current Windows installation to the Windows product key on the Microsoft label on your PC's case.
If the key is not readable you would have to find and buy a new copy of W7 that has a valid product key.
That is when it is probably much better to buy a newer PC--even a refurbished one on eBay, unless you can find a legitimate W7 OS and key for cheap.

If necessary, you can purchase a bona fide W7 key very cheaply such as via Electronic First for less than $5: Buy Windows 7 Professional OEM- Cheapest Price - Electronic First.
This company has been in business since 2007 and they have partnerships with industry leaders such as Microsoft, Steam, PlayStation and Xbox.
I have used ElectronicFirst numerous times with zero problems whatsoever -as a matter of fact, whenever I need a Windows license, I purchase it through them. I have checked with Microsoft, and the license keys are indeed legit. And, by the way, they don't spam you, and they use a solid, certified purchase portal.
Kind Regards,
