Hello,
somes are talking about that x9100
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/356499-8gb-800-mhz-ram-x9100-cpu-hdx-16-a.html
i think it will work but be aware !!!!!!!!
1. with the x9100 you will get 3.06Ghz but the laptop will goo to hot and if not you don't cool it enough you will break it...
an hdx16 with x9100 in summer without cooling is not usable !
2. the consumption of this cpu is more important so you will get less battery
3. the diffrence between a P9700 and x9100 is not as important as that ! ... don't ruin your laptop cose in cpu technology if you really want to have a big diffrence you'll need a quad core and with the hdx16 it's not possible
4. i'am using my hdx as first computer for every thing video/game/internet/videoediting etc. and the performance i'am getting with the p9700 is very good
5. even with the p9700 the laptop is getting a little hot, i think it's the maximum...(it's correct but hot enough to don't go highter)
6. don't forget that the cpu is not the only thing you can improve and improving only the cpu is not as good as that...
think to upgrade to 8GB ram at 800 mhz and hdd with 7200
7. even upgrading yor ram to 800 mhz you'll get a good improve !
8. the most improve of this laptop is hdd at 7200 ! a lot better than upgrading cpu but if you done the 2 think it's better !
any way think twice before going to x9100 i'am telling you that cose every body here was wondering going to x9100 or highter...
i wanted to take a x9100 but at last i tool a p9700 and i'am really very happy of my choice and even i get a x9100 for free i'll not change my cpu
the only interesting case to get a x9100 is if you are using the laptop as a desktop without needind battery for long using and with a very good additional cooling system and if you already upgrade the hdd to 7200 and ram to 8gb at 800 mhz
good luck 😉

Thank you very very much for you reply. I did do more research and notice that X9100 with the E0 steping is much better and has lower temp, with the low temp ability would you still recommand an X9100 upgrade? As far as HDD I already have 7000 rpm. For the ram i'm going to upgread it with 8GB 800mhz..

Hi...
i am using a P9700 Stepping E0 and it's going hot on the hdx16 with win7 ...
i don't recommand you the x9100 but if you have money you can tray 😄
...
any way it's my own opinion, the x9100 will work so you can try...
Let us know when you make you choice and upgrade 😉

Hello! I have a such situation !
Ibought hp hdx16t-1200 with t6600 processor installed, 4 gb ram ddr2. I read a lot of articles, forums, used the information from CPU-Z, Everest soft and saw that a x9100 can be installed. I have upgraded to 8GB ddr2 and installed the processor but when turning it on it's not even loading the bios window! It's not starting and I don't know what to do. I don't want to dissasemble it again and instal my T6600 old one . Before install x9100 I have upgraded bios to the f.35 version cause somebody wrote that this will help torun x9100. With f35 bios my laptop was working great.
What should I do to use my lpatop ! Will be thankfull for your help !
