HP HDX18 (model number: X-18-1380EZ) - SATA disk upgrade to which standard SATA I/II or III

Hi Community,

I have a Multimedia Notebook called Pavillion HDX 18 (purchase date Oct 2008) for which I could not find documentation on support site anymore.

This system has a dual-disk HW configuration and I would like to upgrade it from its current 2x250GB (2.5") to 1 or 2 TB. therefore I have two questions:

1.) which is the SATA disk standard which is compatible which this Notebook? SATA I/II or III

2.) what is the largest size of disk that the HW of my laptop could use (OS is Win10 64-bit)

Hi, Fritz:

Your notebook's drive controller is SATA II, and a SATA III SSD will work and it will provide much better performance--even at the slower SATA II speed.

The service manual indicates that you can install 2 x 500 GB drives.

You probably could go to 2 x 1 TB drives but the 2 x 500 GB spec is what the manual indicates.

I have meanwhile installed the 1TB SSD on my HDX 18.

However Win 10 installation does not go beyond the point of selecting the correct partition. Error message:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS".

although on cmd level I could use "diskpart" command line tool to create and mount a 100 GB partition without any issues. However the Win10 installation wizard gets stuck here

Could you help me navigate this challenge?

What is the latest BIOS version for this Notebook? I could not find anything on HP Support website.
