Hi everyone,
Looking for some support, i have owned a hp pavilion 15-aw009na laptop for over a year now (2nd July 2017) and really and truthfully have had nothing but problems with it, it was purchased as a casual gaming laptop due to its price from eBay and came with a years HP Warranty (which i had the Battery replaced on following the recall program) which has since run out.
Its only recently with a change of job that i find i have more time and want to start using it more for gaming, and learning some basic coding.
The performance of the system is so slow, taking ages to boot up. Having done a clean install and still being faced with the same challenging issues ( i have a basic acer work laptop with half the spec of this one which loads almost instantly... not just OS, but web pages, video and games). I have decided that i would review the hard ware again to ensure all is running correctly so have got hold of the Hardware Diagnostics Tool from HP support. I am unable to perform the Battery Check and also the Long Drive -Self Test HD sticks at 10% (even leaving it overnight). Can anyone suggest some tips for getting the check to work, everything else passes. I guess also there is a potenial Battery issue (it doesnt hold charge for more than hour) based on the fact that the test always comes back as cancelled also.
Hope someone can help
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Thank you for reaching out to us,
I have reviewed your post and understand that both the battery and the hard drive has issues, I'm glad you've done all relevant troubleshooting that ensures i don't have to ask any more questions, that said, here's what you need to do:
The fact that the device doesn't let you run the extensive hardware test on the hard drive, and it's stuck on 10% goes to show that there's a either a bad sector or the hard drive could be faulty.
You could attempt to update the BIOS: Click here for information.
If that doesn't help, I recommend you make use of the instructions I would be sending out via the private message feature to replace both the battery and the hard drive as they both seems to have an issue.
Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile
Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it
(The reason we are utilizing the private message now, is because the instructions are critical).
Keep me posted,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Good Luck.

Same problem, same machine. Except mine closes down for overheating whenever any interactive video (eg Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts, etc) is used. Hence the desire to do the diagnoistics. Could you send me the fix regarding the self-test locking at 10% please? I've already done all the other diagnostics, updated BIOS, had it professinoally cleaned (it wasn't dirty anyway), and blow fans at it whenever it's powered on.
