I FOUND A SOLUTION!!! I have an Elitebook 745 G6

One of two things occurred to fix the UWP hot key empty error

I disabled and uninstalled all of the HP software, the framework one, and the support assistant.

Went to the hp website and downloaded the oldest UWP hot key driver, the last two oldest available from 2021 and 2022.

I turned on airplane mode, and uninstalled under the device manager, software components, the UWP hot key one.

I also made sure under services it was no longer disabled, which was interesting because at this point it was there but by setting it to automatic and hitting start it said there wasn't anything there to turn on.

So I went to the download folder and ran the installer for the oldest UWP driver… that one didn’t work, I tried starting the UWP service and same error, nothing.

Went to reinstall the second driver after that, the one from 2022, and that one did install. I tested the brightness button and this time a box came up and said i needed the CASLSetup.exe. I went to this forum post to find the correct link.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/How-to-download-the-hp-framewor...

After i installed that it didnt work yet, but no warning pop up box.

I went back to services, I noticed that the HP LAN/WLAN/WWAN switching UWP service was disabled. I cant remember why this was disabled whether it was me doing that or not but enabling it, i also re enabled the UWP hot key service, all good, then i pressed the brightness button and brightness is back!!! woohoo!!!

I know pc troubleshooting your supposed to do one thing at once but i got fed up with this and wasn't sure if HP was gonna ever fix this since it was clearly their fault, i even spent an evening reinstalling windows 11, which for the record is annoying to install without a user account

Now this could have been because of the LAN/WLAN/WWANN service the whole time but it also could have been because i had to lock out the internet to install those drivers.

What happened for me was i saw there was an HP driver under windows 11 update page a few days ago, i let it install thinking it was gonna be important because i just recently reinstalled windows on this machine a couple weeks ago and it must have been a driver i was missing. After it installed that's when i saw the UPW driver empty box thing pop up, and the box popped up every every time i pressed the button, which is annoying if you pressed it a dozen times in frustration and you have a dozen boxes to now close.

I tried all of the recommended solutions from this page and a reddit post and got no where, none of those solutions worked.

This one is working:

1. Go to "Services"

1.jpg

2. Find "HP Hotkey UWP Service

3. Right click and choose "Properties"

4. Change startup type to "Disabled"

5. Restart computer

6.  Install Hotkey Support again from this link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp91501-92000/sp91903.exe

7. Restart computer

8. Done

Hi Pejek,

The weird prompt is gone, but f3 f4 and f8 are still not working. Meaning, I can't use them to regulate brightness or microphone. When I press such keys, nothing happens

Any ideas?

Thanks anyway for your reply

Disabling the Hot key, all this does is removes the error message but at the end of the day the brightness control is disabled, which is not a solution, its a temporary solution until HP fixes it.

Since fixing it, HP has pushed out these two updates under windows update

HP Development Company LP SoftwareComponent - 8.10.28.1

HP Development Company LP Keyboard 11.1.8.1

Guess what happens when it forces you to update? Which by the way there was no way to disable the update

Ta Da, HP is pushing this update out causing this issue, i just replicated it, and disabling the Hot Key service ONLY removes the warning but also disables your ability to control screen brightness which makes using this laptop extremely frustrating to use.

HP PLEASE FIX YOUR ERROR

because disabling the hot key service removes your ability to control anything on the laptop, its not a fix, its a temporary solution, HP needs to push out an update to fix it

Since the update was pushed out on me, i went back into services, and discovered some new HP Services after all the steps i did earlier, and one of them was this hot key one not the UWP one

hotkey disable.png

I just right clicked on it, went to properties and clicked stop. Guess what happened? I still get the same error message but i have control of my screen brightness....

So then i went to the hot key UWP service and right clicked and chose stop, guess what happened?

Full screen brightness and no error popping up!!!

So i went into the properties of

HP HotKey Service and HP Hotkey UWP Service, and disabled both, and now i have full screen brightness with no more error popping up

Hi Giouk1,

I have a solution which you can try,

i turned on my airplane mode using the button then i rolled back this driver "HP LAN/WLAN/WWAN Switching and Hotkey Service" under system components in my device manager and got everything back to normal.

Additionally, you could disable all hotkeys services first and proceed on rolling back the driver. BUT, your airplane mode must be turned on first before taking any actions.  After doing so i checked services and all my hotkeys services were turned on automatically and there were no errors what so ever.

I hope this will help.

HP PLEASE, TEST YOUR SOFTWARE DRIVERS PROPERELY BEFORE ROLLING THEM OUT !  🙂

Thanks and your welcome. 😉

I'm struggling with the same problem on my ProBook 470 G5 for several days. First I tried to fix it by reinstalling the HP Hotkey Support, however before that I probably did a stupid thing and removed the "bad" HP Hotkey Support via Control Panel -> Programs and Features. And now I cannot get it back 😞 No matter what version of HP Hotkey Support I download - after launching the installator it always goes by showing this window for a couple of seconds and then it ends:

screen2.png

HP Hotkey Support won't install, then - at least I cannot see it neither in Programs and Features nor in the Device Manager. Any suggestion to get it back???

After disabling it in services install Hotkey Support again from this link:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp91501-92000/sp91903.exe

After installation and restart everything is back to normal without any error
