HP Laptop 14-bw0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I downloaded and updated my HP notebook's BIOS following the suggestion given in HP Support Assistant last week (13 July 2018).

After the updating, my notebook's performance degrades significantly. Browsing becomes a pain - I tested with MS-Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera (all updated to current versions). My HP notebook has 8GB RAM and yet its browsing speed is snail pace compare to my Asus T100 which only has 2GB RAM (without GPU).

Start-up in WIndows 10 slows down as well. And the icons on the tast bar disappear & reappear momentarily on & off.

My other run-of-the-mills apps also slow down.  A check on Windows Task Manager show nothing significant except for Mozilla browser (running on its own with some add-ons on a single tab) hitting 50% of CPU resources which then shows the whole system hits 100% of CPU resources. Running Opera (bare install without VPN enabled) hits around 14% on single tab but still page display is extremely slow.

I scanned using Malwarebyte and AVAST anti-virus (my installed AV) and found nothing suspicious.

I have tried resolving the problem based on the solution (which the thread started indicated failed to help) found in https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Performance-issues-after-F-30-...

I suspect it is the BIOS update that is the source of the problem. How can I get back an earlier BIOS version as currently it is a miserable experience working on my HP notebook.

Thank you for responding,

This is the Riddle_Decipher, again!

It's great to have you back 😉

I hope its soon too, however, when the update is available, you should be notified via the HP Support Assistant or you can manually go to the HP website and look for updates after a few days, although, in my humble opinion, if you have any issues as informed to us earlier, do attempt the BIOS Rollback and keep us posted.

@EricYap

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums.

It'll be an honor to guide you through the steps needed to fix your concern or address your query 😉

As I understand you have slow performance issues on the device since the last BIOS update,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

  • Have you attempted a BIOS recovery as mentioned in the link you had shared?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:

Considering the issue occurred after the BIOS update, you can do one of two things, either perform a BIOS recovery and get back to the original bios that doesn't exhibit this issue, and/or wait for the next BIOS to be released as it should contain a fix for the current BIOS.

If you don't wish to wait or the BIOS recovery doesn't help, I suggest you check the below steps:

I'm sending out a Private message with the information you need to get this sorted,

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it

(The reason we are utilizing the private message now, is because the instructions are critical).

Do get back to us as we have a few more tricks up our sleeves,

Besides, we will follow up to ensure your concern is resolved,

That said, If we have helped you resolve the issue,

feel free to give us a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon

followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution'

And Have a great day Ahead!

i have the same problem with the person above after the July 2018  (windows v1803) my computer fail on updates. Slow logon, brouser is tottaly slow, download speed reduced like 70% and sound is like a slow motion on streaming and on mp3's , so i had to restore windows. Restoring the 1803 windows 10 fix it but after i install a few updates inclouding hp assistant drivers i have the same issue. Will there be a fix?

Is this a bios issue?

Please advise or sue microsoft . Our machines are well paid and Microsoft should be prepare updates for all windows machines or Hp must stop this updates and test them before we all go through this trouble.
