This laptop doesn't have an ethernet port so I bought a VAVA USB-C VA-UC010 8 port hub. I can connect ethernet, USB mouse just fine. When I connect and HDMI cable for external monitor Windows Device Manager generates a Error Code 43 on the USB3.1 Host Controller. The laptop has an HDMI port and the same HDMI cable, as well a 2nd cable, displays on my monitor just fine. HDMI 1.4b is the spec on the HDMI port.
?? Does the laptop USB 3.1-C port have a DisplayPort AltMode limitation where it will not output HDMI thru the USB C portand ultimately to the USB-C hub? (I've been reading about USB 3.1-c and my head is spinning, thought I'd ask a ? on this forum)
Like I said the HDMI port on the laptop works fine. I would like to drive 2 monitors, 1 thru the HDMI port on latptop and another thru the USB-C hub if possible.
Thanks.

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06617067
It has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does not give video out or it does not have DisplayPort AltMode.
You need a DisplayLink Certified dock to be able to use 2 monitors, one example
