OMEN Laptop - 15-dh1087nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So essentially I have scoured the internet trying to find solutions for this particular issue. My laptop has a max Ram of over 64gb according to the amount given using command wmic memphysical get maxcapacity in command prompt. When I first bought my HP Omen I upgraded the RAM sticks from two 8gb sticks of DDR4 to what I believe was two 24 GB DDR4 sticks.  My laptop recognizes the RAM as available and usable within the task manager and settings. I have tried everything I can find on the issue including but not limited to messing with the paging file max, allowing automatic filing, checking my BIOS settings (where I am not seeing an option to increase RAM or able to select it to remap the RAM as i have seen people suggest) and it is driving me nuts that I can't find a way to get my computer to use more of the RAM i have available. Typically even when running RAM intensive games and what not the RAM usage stays around 13.7 GB and will not go higher while my CPU usage goes up instead. Trying to figure out a way to allow my PC to access all of the RAM available to it rather than it just using the 13-14 GB of it that it does use. Also, my laptop is running the 64 bit Windows 10 and has a NVIDIA 2060 GPU with 8gb of VRAM on it just in case that information is needed. I appreciate any and all suggestions! Thanks so much!

"When I first bought my HP Omen I upgraded the RAM sticks from two 8gb sticks of DDR4 to what I believe was two 24 GB DDR4 sticks."

There is no such thing as 24GB memory modules.

Which exact modules as in brand and model/part number did you upgrade it with?

Lets start with that.

Upgrades must be done with compatible memory modules.  If one does not know much about laptops and PCs it is best to purchase guaranteed compatible memory modules.

Here is a hyperlink to guaranteed compatible memory modules that are specifically for your laptop.

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/omen-15-dh1087nr

Installing two 32 GB modules will give you 32  64GB of installed memory. Most people never need more than that.

When upgrading, you must remove the original modules and install a pair of compatible modules of the same capacity that are identical in all respects.

That is if you want the upgrade to work right the first time, although for you I believe that ship already sailed.

You can correct that by following the method I described two sentences back.

Ok, so I looked into it and when I first got the laptop it had one 12GB stick in it with an empty slot. Which made it 12GB total when I purchased. I then got two new PNY RAM sticks one is 32GB DDR4 2666MHz and one is 16GB DDR4 2666MHz. The laptop registers the 48GB of total RAM memory and it is listed in my settings/task manager. But it only uses half of it at most. Not the full amount. While I agree that 32GB would have been enough the sticks were bought for me as a gift and they picked them out so I didn't really get a say in that part. The Shop they bought the RAM from assured them it would give me a total of 48GB of RAM if I put one in each slot on my laptop and that as long as they matched in MHZ and both were DDR4 that they would work together.... and it appears to register and use more than 16gb but less than 32gb while i am using the laptop so I am just curious as to what I can do to get it to use the full amount rather than it using more of my CPU. Given what I have seen I should be able to use up to 64gb of RAM with my motherboard and what not. Also on the crucial website you linked it says that two 32GB sticks of RAM would equal 64GB of total RAM not 32GB. Or does it say 64GB and only 32GB of them are usable?

The amount of memory that is used depends on what the program(s) you are running require. That is why you never see more than, say 16 GB  of the installed memory in use. In the example image I am running two different browsers, CPU-Z, Task Manager and all of the background apps.

There is also an overhead cost that you will  never be able to use. That is the case no matter how much memory you install.

The nice thing about having identical memory modules installed is that, if your chipset/process is capable of it, the modules will run in dual channel mode. Dual channel mode is faster than the single channel mode your two modules are running in.

There are more options available at the Crucial website than just 32 GB modules. That was just an arbitrary choice and I see the error in my math there. Thanks for the correction. I should have chosen two 16 GB modules instead as I  did with in my own PC.

That is what I am curious about. I am running Chrome, Discord, Task Manager, Steam, and Starfield (The Game) at the moment. The minimum requirement for Starfield alone is 16GB of RAM. Yet with all of this running my RAM usage is only at 30% similar to the SS you sent. My RAM usage never goes above like 15GB no matter how many programs or applications I open. At a certain point my RAM stops going up and my CPU usage spikes instead. I was wondering if there is a way to force my extra RAM into use to take some of the load off of my CPU during high-load situations. Or maybe even a way to convert RAM into VRAM if that is even possible. Seems silly that a motherboard capable of running 64GB of RAM would only use a 1/8 of that at any given point. I have looked everywhere and can't find a way to make sure my computer is utilizing all of its available RAM. I really appreciate you replying!

The program and the Windows OS you have will only use the amount of memory that is required.

You really should be happy with minimum usage.

Some of your installed memory is used as virtual memory by the operating system.

BTW, there is also no such thing as a 12 GB soDIMM memory module.
