I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the screen after purchasing the laptop. Specifically, can I ship the device back to HP (or any other way) to get the higher quality screen (outlined in the picture), at a cost of course?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi @PJD15,

I understand your HP Omen 16 question about upgrading to a higher-quality display panel. Let’s go through a few points to clarify what’s possible and what your options are.

HP does not offer post-purchase display upgrades through official service

HP replacements are like-for-like: they only install the same panel model your laptop originally shipped with.

Upgrading to a different refresh rate, brightness, color gamut, or resolution panel is not an official HP service option.

Display upgrades may be possible technically, but not officially supported

Many Omen models share similar connectors and mounting points, so an upgraded panel might work.

However, HP doesn’t validate or guarantee compatibility with higher-spec panels.

Wrong panel firmware or timing specs can cause brightness issues, no display, or variable refresh problems.

Third-party technicians can perform panel upgrades—but with caution

A qualified repair shop can install compatible panels (like 165Hz, HDR, high-gamut options).

They must match connector type, voltage, panel timing, and physical size.

This is not HP-approved and could affect warranties or future HP repairs.

Check hardware compatibility before attempting any upgrade

Use your full product number (e.g., “16-k0xxx” or “16-n0xxx”) to look up the service manual.

HP maintenance guides list exact panel models your unit supports from factory.

If the higher-quality screen is not listed, HP considers it unsupported.

If the laptop is still under warranty

Opening the display assembly by third-party repairers may void accidental damage or standard warranty coverage.

HP does not provide warranty for non-original panels.

If you mainly want better color or HDR for content creation

A high-quality external monitor will give you a bigger upgrade without modifying the laptop.

Many Omen laptops support high-refresh HDMI/USB-C output.

I hope this helps.
